Subfield Tab
The Subfield tab displays for reports that can modify subfields in MARC headings in bibliographic records. The following Subfield tab options may or may not be available, depending on the report.
| • | Edit Operation |
| • | Ignore Case/Punctuation When Matching |
| • | List Updated Entries |
| • | MARC Tag Number |
| • | Maximum Titles to Process |
| • | Replacement String |
| • | String to Match |
| • | Subfield |
| • | Update Database |
One of the following edit operations must be selected.
| • | Delete removes the specified entry. The entire entry is deleted, not the specified text. |
| • | Replace replaces the entire text of the selected subfield with the text typed in the Replacement String field, up to 100 characters. |
Ignore Case/Punctuation When Matching
If this check box is selected, letter case and punctuation marks are ignored when matching text. If the check box is cleared, the typed string must match exactly. By default, the check box is cleared.
If this check box is selected, the updated entries are logged to a file. The log file shows the text of the modified entries before and after modification. If the check box is cleared, no log file is produced. This option appears in the Replace Subfields in MARC Headings report.
This field is required. Only the selected MARC tag numbers will be modified. Use the Entries to Process gadget to select MARC tag numbers. This option appears in the Replace Subfields in MARC Headings report.
Type the maximum number of title records to edit when replacing or deleting text in subfields. This option appears in the Replace Subfields in MARC Headings report.
This field is required when either Replace or Replace Entire Entry is selected for the Edit Operation option. Type the string that will replace the string entered in the String to Match field.
This field is required. It allows you to select a record to edit based on the existence of a particular string or strings of text, even if that is not the text string to be edited. Use the String List gadget, or type a string or strings to match up to 100 characters. Commas are permissible. Text strings are case and punctuation sensitive and are not whole word matching. For instance, searching ”cat” will select ”cat,” ”catalog,” ”scatter,” etc.
If you put a leading space on the String to Match, you can eliminate embedded string matches such as matching ”cat” in ”scatter;” however, the system does not recognize a trailing space.
This field is required. This field selects the subfield to be edited in the bibliographic record. This option appears in the Replace Subfields in MARC Headings report.
If this check box is selected, changes are made to the selected bibliographic records. If this check box is cleared, the report runs, identifies the records that would be changed, but does not make any changes. Changes may not be searchable until the Add, Delete, Update Databases report is run.
