How do I modify an existing resource?
Occasionally, a user would need to modify the Name or Access Level for a particular resource in the directory tree, or to add extended resource metadata. Use the following steps to make a modification.
1 | Select a resource in the directory tree. |
2 | Click on the Modify Resource helper, or right-click the selection and select Modify. |
3 | In the Modify Resource window, make the changes you want to make for the resource metadata. |
4 | Either click OK when you have completed the modification, or click Cancel to return to the directory tree without changing the metadata. |
The resource metadata window also allows the entry of an Resource ID that matches the entry contained in the 856 field of the catalog entry.
Users with the Accountability module can also enter any defined access control policies for the Resource Type in the resource metadata window.
How do I add an ABSTRACT to my digital collection?
Sometimes a collection may need to have an abstract associated with it. An ABSTRACT is a Resource Type that is used to describe the collection, or a branch of the collection, and is displayed as an accessible resource when the resource is searched in the e-Library. The ABSTRACT displays in the e-Library and Hyperion with an “i” icon, and links to an HTML or other file type. An ABSTRACT Resource Type is defined to use Parent Characteristics, and cannot have children associated with it.
1 | Select the resource the abstract will be referencing. |
2 | Click the Create Resource Below helper. |
3 | Select the Resource Type of ABSTRACT and enter any other relevant information, including extended attributes, if applicable. |
4 | Click OK. You will be asked the following. |
Do you want to attach an image to the resource?
5 | Click Yes. You will be asked if you want to import the image from your workstation. |
6 | If you click Yes, you will be prompted to browse the directory and select file name of the image using the File Select gadget. |
If you click No, you will be prompted to enter the exact file name of the image as it exists on the server.
7 | Click OK to import the abstract document from its source and complete the creation of the new resource in the hierarchy. |
Images can also be added to a resource at any time using the Import Image from PC or Import Image from Server helpers.
The abstract icon displays as in the Hyperion staff client, and as
in the e-Library.
How do I add extended metadata attributes to a resource?
This field allows the user to input fields such as Author or Copyright into the Metadata record. A list of defined Extended Attributes can be accessed via a drop-down list by clicking on the arrow to the right of the field.
Before extended attributes can be used, the Entry ID and Extended Attribute Format policies have to be created. DUBLIN and HYPERX are delivered metadata formats, with appropriate entries added for each. Contact the Helpdesk if you need to make additional fields searchable or would like to create new metadata formats.
Use the following steps to assign established extended attributes while creating new resources.
1 | Under Resource Extended Metadata, click Create First Row. |
2 | Click the drop-down list and select the attribute type. |
3 | Type the information appropriate for that type the text box to the right of the attribute. For instance, if AUTHOR was selected, type Smith, John. |
4 | Additional attributes can be added using the Insert Row Before or Insert Row After helpers following the same procedure. |
5 | Click OK when you are finished adding extended attributes. |
You can have multiple instances of a type of attribute. For instance, you can have several lines of the AUTHOR Resource Type, one for each person responsible for the resource.
